Those magnificent men and women in their flying machines

Saturday, April 4th, 2009

Some years back there was the comedy, “Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines.” Madcap pilots racing around the world for a trophy. I was reminded of the movie when I read today’s post at Arty’s blog. Apparently, flying buddy Randy is closing the gap between him and Arty as they continue their flight to Florida. Here are links to Arty’s blog, Arty’s SPOT and Randy’s SPOT. Fly Safe, folks!!

Arty Trost and her Maxair Drifter

Arty Trost and her Maxair Drifter

Arty has chosen wisely to follow an old saying that many pilots know well, “I’d rather be on the ground wishing I was up in the air, than in the air wishing I was on the ground.” She left a short note at her blog and will see what things look like tomorrow.

Adventure on the wing

Arty Trost and her Maxair Drifter

The spirit of adventure is still alive and well in America! What I’m feeling right now, must have been in years past similar to the excitement folks felt about the aviation exploits of Amelia Earhart.  I get such a thrill from following the progress of Arty Trost as she continues her aerial odyssey from Sandy, OR to Lakeland, FL. I just finished reading Arty’s first post since she began her flight…again. She writes so well that you can practically feel the cold and see the drifting clouds and majestic mountains. I swear I can smell the coffee at the FBO’s she stopped at! Continue the flight with Arty by reading her latest post and watch her progress on SPOT. Fly safe, my friend!
