For more information about the manager and author, Carol Plotnick, you’ll learn more about her on this page and in the posts in this blog. Carol founded Chrysalis Publications, LLC in March 2008. Her background in office administration and writing provides a solid foundation for the corporation. She has over 25 years experience in office procedures and administration, 7 years in finance and marketing and throughout her career, she has written procedure manuals, created an Access database and reports for a national marketing research company, written and edited text and articles for a corporate web site and written or edited articles for various company newsletters and national magazines. She is a member of the Maryland Writers’ Association.
Her interests include helping members of her community. In 2008, Carol drove over 1600 miles for the American Cancer Society’s Road to Recovery program. She and members of her church [Our Shepherd Lutheran Church] cook a hot meal and make lunches for the hungry at Elizabeth House one day a month. She and her husband retired from full-time work at the end of 2006. The retirees soon discovered that daily living gets kicked up a few notches when you retire! At the local community college, Mike currently attends classes, works part-time in the computer lab, and teaches an evening class in computer programming.
During 2007, Carol and Mike traveled to various ultralight and light sport aviation events. Carol wrote articles for Light Sport and Ultralight Flying magazine and Mike supplied the photographs. Also that year, after attending the Bay to Ocean Writers conference near Wye Mills, MD, Carol decided to self-publish the novel that she had been working on since 2001. She hired an editor and graphic designers and celebrated the publication of her novel Flying Wires on December 10, 2008. She continues to explore alternative formats to the current PDF version, now on sale. However, with the economy taking a plunge in October 2008, it soon became apparent that her retirement was turning into semi-retirement. In January of 2009, Carol began setting the wheels in motion to create a virtual assistant division within Chrysalis Publications, LLC. With one customer on board, another in the wings and a lot of marketing on the horizon, the manager of this company is now definitely juggling more than one ball!
Carol became interested in ultralights in the summer of 2000, at AirVenture in Oshkosh, WI. After returning home, Mike and Carol located an ultralight flight school and began taking lessons. With the guidance of the USUA flight instructors at Shoestring Airport in Shrewsbury, PA and with a lot of hard work and practice, Mike and Carol learned to fly. Mike soloed in November 2001. On June 22, 2002, Carol soloed in the Quicksilver Sport trainer in which she trained. In September of the same year, she launched her first solo flight in her own plane – the Quicksilver Sprint. “I will never forget those first solo flights,” Carol says. “Learning to fly is an experience like nothing else I’ve ever done before or since. It builds confidence and…it’s a heck of a lot of fun!” Although she sold her Quicksilver Sprint in July 2006, Carol continues to follow the sport of ultralight flying.
