Van transportation - The City of Laurel Senior Van Services program offers curb-to-curb service for Laurel seniors and disabled residents. Annual fee: $25.00 The vans only make pick ups and drop offs within the city limits and riders must call ahead. Hours of service is limited and during bad weather, the service follows the school closing schedule. For more information, call 301-498-3384. KidsPeace - Looking for foster families who will care for and parent children with therapeutic needs. Training, guidance and financial support is provided.
Men Aiming Higher, Inc. - This organization works with young African American men - ages 16 to 29 - "through educational tutoring, leadership training, mentoring programs and community service projects to" help direct them away from peer pressure, risky moral behavior, gangs and other obstacles. They work to empower the men for leadership and productive careers and to help them attain a "socially, culturally . . . community conscience."
SADS - Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndromes - The organization provides funding for research, support and education about this heart ailment that claims about 4,000 children and adults under the age of 40 every year.
